Goat Format World Championship 2022 Deck Tech: Carlos Rodriguez's Rescue Cat OTK
Carlos Rodriguez piloted a Rescue Cat OTK deck at the 2022 World Championship, focusing on combining Rescue Cat with Last Will for explosive OTK plays.
Today's World Championship meta is full of the typical Goat Format powerhouse strategies, including lots of Chaos, Warrior, and Panda Burn lists. There are very few combo decks to speak of, though. One of the brave few to pilot an OTK strategy is Carlos Andres Garcia Rodriguez (AKA RedGadget), who decided to pilot one of the cutest (but still deadly) combos in the format: Rescue Cat!
Deck List
Rescue Cat is an OTK combo deck that combines Cat with Last Will to fill the board with threats, hopefully killing the opponent in one big push. Milus Radiant and Gyaku-Gire Panda help ensure the kill no matter what's on the other side of the field. Burn effects are also used to close out the game, should that one huge swing not be possible. Ceasefire, Just Desserts and Secret Barrel are all common in this regard. Mage Power and United We Stand are also common, but it looks like Rodriguez has decided against them.
Player Insight
While most players have decided on their decks for today's event based on testing, meta choices, and all in all what they believe to be the most powerful strategies in the format, Rodriguez chose his deck using a different method: His wife likes it!
Rescue Cat is the favorite card of my wife. If I won today with it, it would be a thousand times better than with any other deck in the world. So, worth the bet. [...] Listen to your wives for your tech guys, that is the new heart of cards.
Of course, there's more to the strategy than just cute faces, and it's definitely strong enough to have a chance at winning the event. Rodriguez spoke on the deck's strength, strategy, and some of his choices.
For the rest of the cards, I used a lot of recipes. Finally, I decided to use a 40-card recipe (despite the Milus brick) and cut one of the best burn cards (counting on the Rescue/Last Will strategy being more effective and my opponent focusing in playing around burn).The deck has incredible explosiveness with the OTK, plus the chances of getting it are pretty wide. The balance between Stall, Burn, and OTK makes the opponent have no answer to everything. One of my favorite cards for its interactivity is Mind Control. The number of flip monsters you can take advantage of from the opponent is quite wide, and it interacts very well with the Ojama lockdown. It also allows you to remove the last defense against the OTK.It is my second time playing in Goatformat.com and my first year as a Goat player. I am really enjoying this experience and I am looking forward to participating more.
