About Goat Format

Goat Format is not supported by Konami. It exists through the cooperative efforts of thousands of players worldwide, from first-timers to world champions. This site is our home: the rules, the decklists, the tournament records and the stories, all in one place.

What we do

We run the format's competitive circuit. Weekly Goat Fridays, the Goat Grand Prix, the Goat Format Championship and the World Championship are all free to enter, with real invites on the line. Alongside the events we maintain the format's reference material: a card database, rulings, replays and a growing library of decklists and articles.

Our story

The April 2005 metagame earned its name from the Scapegoat decks that defined it. Players kept coming back to it long after the game moved on, because the games are long, the decisions are real and you rarely play the same duel twice. What started as nostalgia grew into a scene with its own championships, its own champions and its own history. Twenty years on, more people play Goat Format than ever did in 2005.

How we run

Everything here is built and run by volunteers. Tournament organizers, judges, writers, developers and streamers give their time because they love the format. The community chooses its own destiny: banlist stewardship, event structure and site direction are all decided in the open, with the players.
